Many songs and poems were written about this enchanting city below the Velež Mountain, but none does it justice – so come and see for yourself!
Walk its narrow cobbled streets, browse for souvenirs among the numerous trinket stalls by the river and enjoy a cup of traditional coffee at one of the cafes overlooking the UNESCO-protected Old Bridge (Stari Most), the most iconic place in the city.
A unique example of Ottoman architecture, Stari Most was originally built in the 16th century on the orders of Suleiman the Magnificent.
The bridge was destroyed during the 1990s war and today’s version is a very convincing reconstruction, completed in 2004 using some of the original pieces found in the Neretva river.
