The Ultimate Guide To The Best Croatian Beaches

The Croatian coast has something for everyone – whether you’re travelling alone, with your friend or with a partner, you can always find somewhere to go. From wild party beaches to quiet romantic escapes, the Adriatic coast offers a wide selection of beaches. We’ve listed the best of them for you:

1. Zlatni rat

The name can be translated as “The Golden Horn” or “The Golden Cape”; which perfectly describes what this natural phenomenon looks like.

The Zlatni rat beach spreads almost vertically into the sea and is nearly 500 meters long.

According to many survey, this is Croatia’s most beautiful beach and has become an ultimate symbol of Croatian tourism. It is located in Bol, on the Island of Brač, which is situated in the southern Adriatic in Dalmatia.

Zlatni rat is a beautiful white pebble beach, surrounded by pine trees, providing a shade for those who don’t want to get sun burnt.

2. Kraljičina plaža

This beach is situated by the city of Nin, close to Zadar. Its name means “The Queen’s Beach”, after Croatian king Tomislav’s wife.

She loved this beach and, thus, the family used to spend a lot of time here, according to the legend.

Even today, this beach is a quiet escape for families with kids or, on the other hand, romantic getaway for couples looking for solitude. This beautiful sandy beach, nearly 3,5 km long, provides the stunning view right onto the slopes of the Velebit mountain.

3. Saint Jakov Beach

This beach is located beneath the church and abbey of St. Jakov, after which it got its name.

A kilometre away from Dubrovnik, this is a place to go if you want a bit of solitude. Here you can enjoy a unique view on Dubrovnik and Lokrum Island, after you descend down the stairs and get to this secluded beach.

4. Vela Pržina Beach

Situated on the island of Korčula, this is one of many small and secluded beaches this island has. The early Greeks loved Korčula too, as they established their colony here in Ancient times, and called it Korkyra.

The Vela Pržina Beach is the most popular here and it can get very crowded during high season. So, it’s always best to go to the beach early and “reserve” your spot.

5. Zrće Beach

Party party party! The Zrće Beach is most popular by its day-and-night parties, and thus is a desirable target for young people looking for fun.

Located in Novalja on the Island of Pag in the northern Adriatic, this long pebble beach is home to several discoteques, and is dubbed “the Croatian Ibiza”. Many worldwide famous house and trance DJs performed here, such as Armin Van Buuren, Avicii and David Guetta.

If you want a true party summer on the beach, this is where you need to be!
