More About Makarska Holidays

Makarska is a port town, located on a horseshoe-shaped bay, in the heart of the Croatian Riviera.

The centre of the old town is in Kačić Square, where you will find plenty of open-air bars, cafes and restaurants, and just around the corner, behind the church, is the daily market, which sells fresh fruit and vegetables.

Along at the harbour, you’ll find restaurants and cafes serving pizzas and locally-caught seafood, plus a number of boats offering excursions to the islands of Hvar and Brač.

Makarska is overlooked by the towering Mt. Biokovo, the second highest peak in Croatia.

The area surrounding the mountain is a protected nature park with hiking and cycling trails, where you might be able to spot some chamois goats and golden eagles.

From the top of some of the peaks, on a clear day, you’ll have 360 degrees across to Italy in the west, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the east.

There is also a white-water rafting route which begins high in the Biokovo mountains and flows down through the Cetina river canyon.

For those a little less adventurous, there’s a boat trip which sails up through the canyon.
